How to Make a Short Film

Image
After watching the Youtube video entitled "How to Make a Short Film",  I have taken away a few key points that I would like to share. 1. "Write what you know you can pull off" This idea helped me realize the importance of realism. Basically, this point emphasizes the need to focus on what is possible based on what resources and budget are available, instead of committing to unrealistic ideas. This advice should help greatly in my groups short film process as we are students who are  2. "Focus on setups and payoffs" Setups and payoffs are important in film as they help tell a story in an unexpected way. In film setoffs are considered details or elements that are introduced early on, and payoffs are the unanticipated results they later produce. The video emphasizes the important difference in action, story, and emotional setup and payoffs and their role in film. The suggestion paying off multiple forms of setups in one go to yield maximum results is an actio...

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Part |: - My takeaway from this video is that there are many key differences between films and photo novels, and those differences are essential to understand how an audience perceives different media forms. This includes but is not limited to acting, plot, story-telling, and editing. - Some good information I gathered while processing this video was how important the plot is as well as a climax to a film. It is hard to write a script, but as good as other elements of a film may be, without a plot there is nothing your audience can grip onto for the duration of the film and can be the downfall of what could've been great. It is good to have an idea but it is crucial to be able to execute it. - I envision this helping me through my short film process by helping me think more about whether or not an audience understands my film based off the script and not just whether or not I understand it. It will help me keep in mind that in this case I have to keep people's attention and ...

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
  •  Short film:   The shirt film ‘9’ was visually striking story set in a post-apocalyptic world. This is developed by the strong focus on the visual storytelling, atmosphere and sound design. The lack of dialogue and the drastic plot make the concept open to interpretation. The director, Shane Acker’s experimental directorial styles emphasis on the mood rather than the traditional character development. This was done by the texture and lighting which added to the mysterious tone. The animation is detailed which makes their world feel eerie and mysterious. • Full-length film:  The full-length expands on the world and characters, adding backstory, dialogue and a more traditional narrative structure. While the animation remained a classic, the Hollywood-style conventions. This included a clear hero’s journey and resolution, making it more accessible but took away what made the film truly unique, Th e characters gain distinct personalities, and the emotion stakes ...

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch 1: A mafia boss goes undercover as an ally to avenge the death of her brother. This pitch spoke to my group as we found it to be a serious topic that seemed interesting enough to stay engaged throughout the filming process. In the past, some of our group mates have worked in projects where this has been an issue. At times where the topic at hand is "silly" some cast members find it difficult to focus entirely and stay on task. This can be due to their immaturity and lack of experience with acting. We found this prompt intriguing, creative, and unlike anything either of us have produced before in our other media courses. This made it appealing for us all, and the better choice of our two options. Pitch 2: A secret witch pretends to fall in love with people and then turns them into legos which she collects. This pitch seemed interesting and unique to our group. However, it also posed a question of if our casting crew will be able to give the energy and vibe needed to port...

Genre Decision

Image
Hey all! This blog is all about how and why me and my group chose the genre of "thriller" for our opening sequence of film. Now, I personally love the aspects of suspense and intensity in the media I chose to watch in my free time. So the genre of thriller, with the uncertainty and high tension moments it brings felt like a proper choice for me. Once my group and I began to collaborate an Charlize shared with us a pitch that contained all of the above required to thrill an audience, it all came to life! We are so excited to create a film that encapsulates tons of thriller conventions.

Who am I working with this year?!

Image
Hey guys! I am very hyped to begin the process of creating a short film this year.       I chose to work with a group rather than work by myself because planning, filming, and editing an opening, middle, and ending scene for a short film is something that will take a lot of time and effort. Meaning, that a few extra hands wouldn't hurt! I also don't possess all the editing skills needed to create a film as good as I want it to be. Doing all of this on my own would be very difficult and possibly too much for me to handle. Plus, it's nice to have some friends to make the process interesting. It will be beneficial for us all to help each other out and bond as we work.      But who are these friends? My group consists of three people. Me, Roselyn and Charlize. We chose to work together for more reasons than that we are good friends. Wo know each other well enough to know that each of us have what it takes to get the job done well. All o...

Hello again

Hi guys, welcome to my first-ever A level media blog! I am excited to share my A-level media journey here with you.      Introductions are necessary, so let's start with those. My name is Sabrina Navarra and I am 16 years old. I was born on February 1st, 2008. I live in South Florida, where there is really only one season year-round, with the occasional 70-degree day in December. I have never lived anywhere else though, and it feels weird to think of the possibility.  Because of where I live, I enjoy many of the usual tropical area activities in my free time.    Because of where I live, I enjoy many of the usual tropical area activities in my free time.I enjoy going to the beach with friends and my family (quite a lot). I used to play soccer more regularly, but now I stick to recreational playing with friends, and I began practicing tennis! I enjoyed reading in my childhood, and I still do, but when the school year rolls around I have to take a minor ...
